As New York City’s largest girls-only youth organization, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York is a driving force in providing girls with leadership skills at an early age. As part of its long-term goals to prepare young women for academic and professional success, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York established the Cookie University Mentor Training and the Cookie University programs in late 2012. Hosted at the ING Direct Café, The Cookie University Mentor Training brought together senior Girl Scouts Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors to learn from local financial professionals and develop valuable insight into business and career planning. At the Cookie University in The Cooper Union, mentors interact with Brownies to explore essential skills and business areas such as marketing tactics, financial literacy, and business ethics to help them succeed during the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale. As a result, Girl Scouts in the New York City area have the unique opportunity to apply real-world skills in the largest girl-led business initiative in the world.
