We looked into the Harlem Children Zone in more detail. With a mission to end cycles of generational poverty among families in Central Harlem, the Harlem Children Zone provides several programs for children of all ages. The organization works to provide individualized support to more than 13,000 students to empower them for future academic, professional, and personal success. It focuses on the delivery of comprehensive, long-term support for kids and families at all stages of life, beginning with early childhood development classes for new and expectant parents.
The extensive educational resources of the Harlem Children Zone include pre-K, elementary, middle school, high school, and college preparatory programs, including a variety of enriching after-school programs. The organization continues to support its students throughout their postsecondary academic careers, providing additional support through its College Success Office. In addition to its academic programs, Harlem Children Zone supports entire families through recreational, cultural, informational, and health-focused programs at its community centers. These centers include the Harlem Armory, a 50,000-square-foot facility hosting nutrition classes, fitness programs, and athletic events for both children and adults.
